PUBLISHED BY THE DRAMA NOTEBOOK
A play about a young girl whose drawing secured her family’s immigration into the United States.
"In 2018, author, Marlene Targ Brill, wrote 'Picture Girl,' a children’s book that brought Luba’s (Louise Dunn Yochim) story to life for the first time. I hope that this play illuminates the incredible miracle this Jewish family encountered at Ellis Island (1923), and the tragedies they were fortunate to have escaped. "

THE PLAY
While Europe is engulfed in the Second World War, a Jewish baby girl is found in Mexico City, on the doorstep of a young married couple. The girl comes with nothing but a perplexing note and a set of candlesticks. They decide to raise the child in their Christian home; the candlesticks are put away and forgotten. Until one day a stranger, Samuel Katz, shows up looking for answers. As a terrible earthquake strikes Mexico City, they will all be faced with difficult questions and answers.
